President of The Entrepreneurs’ Center (EC)
Scott Koorndyk is President of The Entrepreneurs’ Center (EC), a modern economic development organization that powers progress and prosperity through entrepreneurship. The EC supports more than 1,100 start-ups and small businesses in the Dayton Region and across the United States. Under Scott’s leadership, the EC has successfully expanded its offerings to include responsibility for the regional Small Business Development Center (SBDC), which supports more than 600 entrepreneurs and small businesses across eight counties. In addition, the EC was selected by the State of Ohio to lead the Entrepreneurial Services Provider Program, which provides more than $12M of direct support to 100+ technology start-ups annually and has generated more than $1.3B in economic impact since its inception. Scott also leads a variety of Accelerator programs including the Small Business Innovative Research Technology Acceleration Project (TAP), a nationwide program to identify, assess and commercialize technologies of interest to the US Air Force. Since the program’s inception, more than 450 companies have participated in the program, and have generated more than $4.5 billion in follow-on funding.
In partnership with senior leadership from the University of Dayton and the Crotty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, Scott jointly envisioned and established the Arcade Innovation Hub, Powered by PNC Bank. The Hub, occupying almost 100,000 square feet in the historic and iconic Dayton Arcade, is the largest University-anchored innovation hub in the United States. The Hub is home to more than 200 small businesses, and hosts more than 40 university classes attended by well over 500 students each week.
Throughout his career, Scott has focused on technology development and commercialization in diverse for-profit and nonprofit businesses. Prior to his role at the EC, Scott was the COO of the Dayton Development Coalition, overseeing the $22.5M pre-seed venture program and other significant economic development initiatives. Prior to joining the DDC, Scott served 15 years at LexisNexis in business and venture development roles, including the management and integration of corporate acquisitions ranging from $500K to $180M in size, and the direct management of strategic alliances and licenses with a combined portfolio value of more than $480M.
Scott received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Hope College, and a Juris Doctorate with a concentration in intellectual property law from the University of Dayton School of Law.
