Principal Electronics Engineer, Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL)

Todd James is a Principal Electronics Engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Information and Spectrum Warfare Directorate at Wright-Patterson AFB. His most recent efforts center on the Digital Twinning of electronics, supporting a strategic shift in electronics acquisition toward a model-based, “verify before build” approach that mirrors commercial best practices for developing complex systems.

Todd brings 29 years of extensive experience in Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design to his current role. Over the past eight years as a civilian at WPAFB, he has led pioneering cloud computing initiatives for electronics design, including the deployment and cloud-connection of commercial emulation and prototyping equipment. Prior to his federal service, he spent two years at a contract ASIC design house and 19 years operating as an ASIC designer, EDA/CAD consultant, and embedded systems programmer, consulting for over 60 commercial companies.

He holds a B.S. in Engineering Physics, a B.S. in Mathematics, and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering, all from The Ohio State University.
