Dr. Shinjiro Yamada is a mechanical engineer working to transform plant production from a process dependent on experience and intuition into a precisely controlled and reproducible industrial production system. As Chairman of the Board of PLANTX Corporation, he oversees the company\u2019s technology development.<\/p>\n
In conventional large-scale indoor farms, heat generated by LED lighting and uneven airflow caused by multi-layer cultivation racks make it difficult to maintain uniform temperature, humidity, CO\u2082 concentration, and other environmental conditions throughout a large cultivation room. In one measured case, a temperature difference of approximately 5\u00b0C was observed between the upper and lower sections of a six-meter-high cultivation room.<\/p>\n
To address this challenge, PLANTX has developed small, fully enclosed cultivation modules in which 28 environmental parameters can be precisely controlled and measured. Optimizing plant characteristics, such as the concentration of functional compounds, through artificial intelligence requires accurate and reproducible environmental data as input variables. Each PLANTX module therefore not only produces plants but also generates reliable cultivation data suitable for AI training. A single production line consists of 120 modules, and additional lines can be installed to expand production capacity without compromising control accuracy or reproducibility.<\/p>\n
Dr. Yamada has more than 56 years of experience in mechanical design and production-system development. At the age of 40, he founded INCS, a manufacturing technology company that grew to approximately 1,400 employees.
