Dr. Hugh Churchill

Associate Professor of Physics,
University of Arkansas

Dr. Hugh Churchill is an Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Arkansas. He leads the Quantum Device Laboratory at UA, where his research group investigates the basic physics and technological applications of electronic and optical devices with capabilities that are either enabled or enhanced by quantum effects. Hugh is also Associate Director of the MonArk NSF Quantum Foundry, a research center that uses robots and artificial intelligence to accelerate the creation, fabrication, and characterization of atomically thin two-dimensional materials and devices for quantum technology applications.

Hugh is a native Arkansan and received a B.A. and B.M. in Physics, Mathematics, and Tuba Performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory and a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University. Prior to joining UA in 2015, he held a Pappalardo Fellowship in Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Fellow of the Arkansas Research Alliance and a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.
